Angry Birds Star Wars release packs a punch, available now

Angry Birds Star Wars has officially landed in the app stores of iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices, as the game is also available for Mac computers, Windows 8 PCs and the Amazon Kindle Fire. Rovio Entertainment and Lucasfilm have joined forces to establish a new era, depicting a gutsy group of birds in their fight against the evil imperial pigs.

Many birds in the game have been designed to resemble actual personalities from the famous Star Wars series. Gamers are sent on an intergalactic voyage from Tatooine to the lair of the evil empire, the Pig Star. They must direct the cloaked characters to employ force-fields as well as wield the lightsaber to fight off the wicked ‘Pigtroopers’ and face the ultimate Dark Lord of the Pigs, Darth Vader.

The game rolls out over 80 stages and features multiple hours of new gameplay mechanics. Accessible to users will be free updates, the ability to level-up, hidden goodies and many more surprises. Players can also look forward to train in the ‘Path of the Jedi,’ an in-app purchase.

Together with the Angry Birds Star Wars game launch, the publisher and developer have introduced tie-in merchandise ranging from Hasbro toys to apparel. These products have been made available in select retail stores.

The Wookie

A new cinematic trailer, which retells the well-known cantina scene from the film, has been embedded below. The game has characters playing the classic heroes of the much adored lore. The red bird now plays Luke Skywalker, drawing a lightsaber with just a tap on the screen, once he’s flung into the air. Similarly, other characters like Obi-wan, Han Solo and Chewbacca fight their arch enemies, hailing from the dark side, the Pigs.

The Angry Birds Star Wars has already been launched worldwide. It has been made available for the Amazon Kindle Fire at a price of $2.99, while for Windows Phone devices, it costs $0.79. It can be downloaded free of cost by those who own Android gadgets. The app charge varies for iOS users, depending on the devices.
