Airtel announces free Facebook access in 9 Indian languages for its pre-paid customers

Airtel wants to woo more and more of its prepaid customers into using mobile internet and thus the network provider has announced a new offer for Facebook access. Under this scheme, all pre-paid users can browse through the social network for free, that means without paying any data costs.

And that’s not quite all. The service provider is letting its subscribers access the website through their mobile phones in as many as 9 Indian regional languages. And it is applicable not only on the dedicated Facebook apps for respective devices, but also when users decide to log in through a mobile web browser.

Compatible languages include Bengali, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Kannada and Malayalam, apart from Hindi. Along with browsing through the news feed, you can carry out all the usual tasks that such as viewing or uploading photos and videos, updating status messages, commenting, writing on walls and even chatting.

If you already access internet on your Airtel-powered mobile phone, then you can immediately start making the most of the new feature. And in case you wish to begin web browsing now, simply log into the mobile website of the social network, that is, m.facebook.com and register for free usage.

But don’t think Airtel is giving you this without any constraints. First of all, it is a limited period offer, but the date at which it gets over has not been mentioned as yet. And secondly, subscribers can only use 30MB of Facebook data per month. If your usage exceeds this limit, you will be made to pay the normal data charges.
