Airtel introduces Free Zone powered by Google in India

Only a couple of days after Bharti Airtel trimmed down its 4G rates in a host of regions for its customers residing within the boundaries of India, the telecom operator has joined forces with Google to launch Free Zone in the country. N Rajaram who happens to be the Chief Marketing Officer in the Consumer Business department at Airtel, has emphasized that this step has been undertaken to persuade users to make the most of what the Internet has to offer.

Justifying its name, Free Zone aims at proffering some of Google’s services at no charge whatsoever. Gmail which has been listed first on the list, will sanction leafing through emails without demanding users to incur any data expenses, provided that it is accessed via the mobile browser.

On the other hand, it will not be possible to download any attachment or tap on a link. Doing so will only direct people to a page where they could subscribe for data package. Knowing the leverage that the search engine holds around the globe, the network operator has an offer revolving around it as well.

Users will now be able to explore every corner of the service and the first page of every link on the portal will be made available for free, but trudging any further into the website will not proffer the ‘no data charge’ benefits. The company is attempting to bill this concept especially to students who happen to feel the need to depend on online tools for regular activities ranging from information for assignments to entertainment needs.

And lastly, G+ also forms a part of the whole package, permitting people to interact with their friends and folks for free. The service has loosened the reins enough for users to check out the latest updates regarding preferred topics through the SNS, some of which cover posts related to sports, music and more.

However, the catch in the scenario is that Airtel customers will have to end up paying extra if their data usage on Free Zone powered by Google, breaches the 1GB monthly limit.
