Aircel and RIM jointly launch BlackBerry services in India

RIM Aircel BlackBerry Bold Aircel has joined the league of network providers that offer Blackberry services in India by joining hands with RIM. The network carrier aims to offer a wide range of BlackBerry smartphones and services for enterprise and individual consumers.

Aircel would capitalize its hold and Redington’s retail distribution channel to provide BlackBerry services in metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai. It also plans to offer services in other parts of Tamil Nadu as well as in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.

Gurdeep Singh, COO, Aircel, mentioned, “We have gained significant momentum in expanding our operations in India and the launch of the BlackBerry solution is of strategic importance for Aircel’s growth. With the availability of a wide range of BlackBerry smartphones on our network, our customers can find the right model for their work and personal needs.”

Aircel subscribers are offered a wide range of BlackBerry smartphones such as the BlackBerry Bold 9000, BlackBerry Curve 8900, BlackBerry Curve 8310 and BlackBerry Pearl 8110. Users can enjoy enhanced means of communication, easy access to email, phone, text and picture messaging, social networking and web browsing applications.

Frenny Bawa, Vice President, India at RIM, quoted, “We are pleased to partner with Aircel and extend the many personal and business benefits of the BlackBerry solution to their consumer and enterprise customers in India,” remarked Frenny Bawa, Vice President, India at RIM.

The network carrier will also offer BlackBerry Enterprise Server to corporate customers who manage their own email servers. The server software is firmly integrated with IBM Lotus Domino, Microsoft Exchange and Novell GroupWise. Further, it provides advanced security and IT policy controls to facilitate secure, push-based wireless access to email and other corporate data.

For smaller businesses and individuals, it envisages BlackBerry Internet Service that permits users to access around 10 supported corporate and personal email accounts from their BlackBerry smartphone.

Aircel has not yet revealed the pricing details of the BlackBerry smartphones.
