Aakash 4 mass production to begin in January 2014: Kapil Sibal

The production of the fourth edition of the Aakash tablet will begin sometime in January next year and we are expecting it to start selling in India soon after that. Along with this bit of information, Telecom Minister, Kapil Sibal also revealed that the upcoming gadget will be like any other modern slates currenty doing the rounds of the market in the country.

The devices belonging to this range are already the cheapest tablets in the nation, but the Minister says that the prices are likely to be reduced even more within a year or so. The cost of the gadget will go down by at least Rs 1000, that is, from Rs 2500 to Rs 1500.

A report from PTI discloses that the Aakash 4 has already been tendered and it may be manufactured by several players. Nothing much has been revealed about the slate as yet, but we do know that its front side will be graced by a capacitive touchscreen measuring 7 inches diagonally. A front camera is also likely to be present for facilitating video conferencing.

You will get Bluetooth for data transferring purposes and built-in Wi-Fi will come in handy for fast web browsing. Moreover, not only does it support 2G and 3G connections, but will also be compatible with 4G network speeds in India. Its total internal memory will amount to 4GB and it will be expandable by up to 32GB using a microSD card. Needless to say, it will make the most of the Android OS.

For refresher’s sake, the Aakash 4 will go into production next month.
