Apple seems to be tying every loose end when it is the security in question, seeing as it has joined the two-step verification club for safeguarding iCloud and its all-in-one ID accounts. A couple of days ago it had updated iOS to 6.1.3 to overcome the passcode lock flaw and a day later, it is all about web accounts protection.
Similar to Google’s two-step verification, Apple users will receive a temporary security code on one or more of their registered ‘trusted iDevices,’ every time they try and access their ID account for managing purposes or for carryings out purchases over iTunes as well as iBookstore. The plus point of this development is that only owners will be able to make any modifications dealing with their accounts. On the other hand, punching in a code every time the need for logging in arises could be a hassle.
The choice to setup this authentication process however, has been left to users. The ‘Password and Security’ tab within ‘Manage your Apple ID’ option will lead them to ‘Get Started’ which will assist in applying the two-step method to their all-in-one account. To turn this off, owners will have to follow a similar pathway.
The temporary security code will find its way into people’s trusted devices in the form of an SMS or the Find My iPhone iOS app, provided the utility has already been installed. The company has also offered a solution for those who might forget their passwords or lose the gadget that is needed while logging in. In such cases, users will receive a 14-digit recovery key which has to be penned down and maintained well.
Apparently, the iPhone maker has started schooling its customer care employees with respect to the latest development. This part of the pack, together with the entire news has been reported by 9To5Mac.
The website also declares that Apple has begun this new system only in select regions. This covers the US, the UK, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand. Additionally, adopting this process will not demand users to retain information considering any security questions. Their identity will solely be defined with the help of whichever iDevice they choose as their trusted gadget.
