It’s not the first time that the S920 has popped up, though the only difference now is its ‘official’ status for China. As it turns out, the rumors about the 5.3-inch display and other features turned out to be true and Lenovo will indeed be playing against other phablet makers in its home territory.
With the large screen across the device and the Android 4.2 OS running it, the phone could have been in direct competition with the Note II. We say ‘could have’ because of the 1.2GHz quad core MediaTek MT6589 processor and 1GB RAM powering it. On the other hand, the Samsung device has a 1.6GHz Exynos 4 Quad chip and 2GB RAM.
Touching on the Chinese manufacturer’s device, the 5.3-inch touchscreen nailed across the front can handle visuals of up to 1280 x 720p resolution. For photography purposes, there’s an 8MP main camera on the back side and a 2MP lens on the front. Understandably, the 1GB of integrated RAM is not the best thing the company has done to the handset, considering that a lot of newer ones have been coming out with more than that.
But there will always be potential users who find the combination of the camera power, Jelly Bean OS and quad core processor a reasonably good motivation to buy it. Additionally all of the technology fits into a chassis which is 7.9mm slim. Android Authority does hint that the white version on the official company website is less tacky than the orange one which was leaked before. But we cannot confirm if the phone will be available in both the aforesaid colors, as of now.
The Lenovo S920 will be priced at CNY 2,199 (that’s USD 353.98) when it reaches launch day on April 8 next month. There’s no word on whether the company intends to take the handset to other markets across the world following this release.
