QNAP QMobile app for iPhone streams content remotely

QNAP QMobile appA range of mobile applications have made life simpler for the conventional multimedia enthusiast, though not many can claim to do so remotely. Buttressing streaming of audio , video files and more from a distant location is QNAP’s latest mobile application. The company launches the QMobile app for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users along with the innovative V3.3 NAS management utility update.

This app when used in collaboration with the QNAP Turbo NAS server will allow users to search music, pictures and videos from their home NAS servers right on their devices using Wi-Fi or 3G networks. The company says users can look forward to entertainment from media content on their handsets similar to enjoying it in the comforts of their couch.

No more storing of songs, videos or pictures before going for long journeys, as this app works as a media center if accessed through Internet. Users can now remotely surf and select playlists according to their mood from song title, artist, album and ID3 tags created on the NAS thanks to the My Jukebox feature. They can now download particular images or entire camera rolls to the QNAP Turbo NAS and view them on their devices by storing on the NAS.

James Wu, Product Manager of QNAP Systems, Inc, remarked, “Today’s consumers are more mobile than ever before and they want to be able to access their music, pictures, and videos stored on their home networks when they are on the go. QNAP’s new QMobile app is the world’s first media player application that allows this content to be easily streamed remotely from a QNAP NAS server directly to an iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch anywhere the user has a Wi-Fi or 3G network connection. Users no longer need to be concerned about synching content directly to the device, saving storage space and providing a compelling user experience.”

Users can also remotely select and play terabytes of suitable multimedia files which are stored in the QNAP NAS, using the new Multimedia Station 2.0 on the V3.3 firmware. They can even effortlessly select and copy the multimedia files to their devices and place them in the ‘My Favorites’ list. This feature will allow them to have entertainment offline when the Internet gets disconnected. The app also gives updates of changes made to their favorite files on the QNAP NAS and enables them to synchronize it according to their preference.

Additionally, the company has also rolled out the new V3.3 update that will benefit the Mac users with new features and enhancements. This upgrade supports the connection to Mac HFS+ formatted for the external drives to the QNAP NAS server for networked access and expansion of storage. This update will also enhance the support of Apple’s time Machine backups for better management and monitoring of applications.

The QMobile app can be downloaded for free from the App store.
