It was estimated that the Palm Pre would cost somewhere around $500 off-contract. Now it appears like those estimates were right.
The Palm Pre is going to cost customers $549.99. This revelation was made by a Sprint customer service representative. For that price the Pre will not be offered unlocked, so customers will have to figure out another way to unlock the future Pre handset.
The Palm Pre will be Palm’s first device based on the new webOS which allows it to wirelessly sync with various online sources. The Palm Pre has a 3.1 inch display and a 3 megapixel camera with LED flash that gives clear images. It also possesses WiFi support and Bluetooth connectivity for easy file transfers. Finally, it includes 8GB of on-board storage space.
This presents two alternatives before customers – either pay the entire amount and enjoy the handset without any contract or get a new 2-year contract.
