BlackBerry Leap phone drops physical keyboard for touchscreen

The BlackBerry Leap is the first full-touch handset we’ve seen from the Canadian company in over a year. The smartphone has been officially revealed at the MWC 2015 and is loaded with the latest software the giant has to offer.

The BlackBerry Leap is essentially the successor to the Z3 handset which was launched last year. The phone continues to cater to the affordable segment and it’s said to carry a retail tag of an entry-level release. The company is basically marketing it as device with quick access to productivity tools and high levels of security which are made possible through the new BB10.3.1 OS.

What’s more, Blackberry says that users will get access to its World marketplace for native apps and the Amazon Appstore for downloading Android applications and games. The phone is designed with a 5-inch 720p HD display and it offers 2GB of RAM with 16GB internal storage and 128GB expandability.

While these components are perfectly acceptable for a mid-range phone, it’s the processor of choice which is a letdown. The company has gone with a dual core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Plus chip that is pretty much outdated now. The most promising feature here is battery life which is estimated at up to 24 hours of heavy usage.
