Amazon slashes Kindle Fire HD 8.9, eReader prices in India

Amazon has reduced the prices of the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 and the 6-inch eReader in India for the festive season. Apart from this, another reason for slashing rates could be the arrival of the Kobo gadgets in the country. Only recently, the Arc, Aura HD, Glo and Touch slates set foot in India to challenge the Kindle eReaders which have been here for a while.

Not all Kindles have been subjected to the price cut, but the basic eReader’s cost has been reduced by Rs 1,000. This 6-inch device features the Pearl e-ink display that has a pixel density of 167ppi. The device that tips the scales at around 170 grams, measures 165 x 114 x 8.7 millimeters. Its 2GB of onboard memory can store up to 1400 eBooks and the company offers cloud storage free of cost with every unit.

The eReader takes merely 3 hours to charge completely and offers a battery life of around 1 month on limited usage. It can be connected to the internet for downloading books through the Amazon store through Wi-Fi and it is even compatible with mobile hotspots.

As for the Fire HD 8.9 tablet, it is now available with a Rs 4000 discount which is applicable on both the 16GB and 32GB versions. Its 8.9-inch touchscreen of 1920 x 1200p resolution is accompanied by a front-facing HD camera and the device running the forked Android OS can provide usage time of about 10 hours.

The Kindle eReader is now available for Rs 5,000, while 16GB and 32GB Kindle Fire HD 8.9 now come for Rs 17,999 and Rs 21,999, respectively. The offer is valid until November 1 at the Amazon India store.
