Yahoo Messenger adds support for Hindi

Yahoo Messenger has rolled out a major new update which introduces non-English languages to the platform for the first time ever. Hindi is among the new tongues added, along with German, Chinese, French, Spanish and Indonesian.

The upgrade also brings in support for the ability to sync and match a user’s smartphone contacts instantly. They’ll have to enable access to contacts in the Yahoo Messenger app for this to be possible. The new feature is a useful one considering how common it is to use a smartphone for chatting nowadays.

While the above features will be rolled out to both iOS and Android users, only the latter will be able to take advantage of a new gif tool. To recall, Yahoo had allowed consumers to send gifs to each other back in December. Now they can type ‘/gif’ followed by any search term to send a random one.

For instance, typing ‘/gif happy’ will result in a random animation getting sent to a friend. Meanwhile, iOS patrons can look forward to getting third-party keyboard support in Yahoo Messenger. Note that this is only applicable for iOS 8, iOS 9.2 and above.

Yahoo Messenger went through a significant design overhaul when it was re-launched last year. Among the top new additions were the unique ability to unsend messages and remove it from a conversation. There’s also a Like button to highlight photos and texts in a chat.

You can download the updated Yahoo Messenger app via the Google Play Store or iTunes.
