Previously, we had penned a post regarding the latest enhancements made to the Yahoo! Sketch-A-Search iPhone app. Well, the company has now posted on its Yahoo! Mobile blog that a freshly done up Yahoo! Local limited beta is out. The app has been optimized for the iPhone and Android devices.

With this new solution, handset owners can bask in the exceptionally personalized experience proffered through the mobile medium. The software will bring users the latest local news, deals, and events that are taking place a little further down the lane. Local publishers, Yahoo! editors and the community along with local blogs and newspapers will together chip in information delivering relevant local news.

Further, the app will even feature details on local offers from spas, restaurants and retailers situated in their neighborhood. With the help of the company’s content enrichment platforms and geo-informatics, it will identify and geo-tag each and every news story published on every page zeroing them down to the neighborhood level.

The beta testing of Yahoo! Local is on in over 30 neighborhoods and cities of the U.S. comprising of San Francisco, Sunnyvale, Brooklyn, NY Palo Alto, Ferndale, Mountain View, Birmingham, and Royal Oak in Michigan. The company intends to expand the service in more neighborhoods and cities around the country.
