iPhone receives an innovative accessory from Wireless Dynamics in the form of the iCarte 110 NFC / RFID reader. The NFC (Near Field Communications) and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) Reader/Writer allows iPhone users to carry out contactless payment via their Apple device.
When the iCarte 110 is connected at the bottom of the iPhone, it is transformed into an NFC phone as well as an RFID Reader/Writer. The iPhone accessory incorporates a smart-chip which can be configured as debit, credit, pre-paid and loyalty cards.
“We are excited about the introduction of NFC, RFID and contact less payment solutions for this (iPhone) game-changing smartphone platform with millions of users. We anticipate that there will be many mobile payment and e-Commerce applications to be developed for the iPhone and iCarte to speed up the adoption of NFC and RFID,” stated Ambrose Tam, Chief Executive Officer of Wireless Dynamics Inc.
iCarte supports multiple RFID protocol read and write functions along with peer to peer communication that is carried out through NFCIP-1 and ISO 18092 standards. RFID tag information can be read and written by the iCarte and communicated in real-time to enterprise databases by means of the iPhone’s Wi-Fi or 3G connections. Business users can use this accessory for commercial applications such as asset tracking, document tracking, healthcare, security and access control.
The Wireless Dynamics device operates at 13.56MHz and supports a wide range of ISO14443A/B and ISO15693 tags including NXP MIFARE and I-CODE SLI, Texas Instrument Tag-it HF-I and more.
The iCarte is compatible with iPhone 3G and 3GS running on OS version 3.0 or higher. The iPhone accessory is inclusive of a mini-USB connector that can be used to charge the iPhone and sync with iTunes. The pricing details of the Wireless Dynamics device are not yet known.
