Windows Mobile ROM unlocks Samsung i910 Omnia GPS

Samsung i910 Omnia Verizon’s Samsung i910 Omnia did not feature GPS so far. However, a new “unofficial” Windows Mobile ROM for the Verizon Samsung Omnia is currently available that can unlock Omnia’s GPS receiver.

According to IntoMobile, this Samsung Omnia ROM will enable users to utilize the integrated GPS hardware with third-party mapping applications such as Live Search and Google Maps.

Verizon had reportedly said that it would unlock GPS receivers in the Omnia and a few other phones in the first half of 2009. However, it is yet to do so.

Besides the GPS unlock, the Omnia ROM also offers 5 percent battery increments, a smart memo, opera mobile 9.5 build 15679 and favorite settings now referred to as easy settings. It features windows live and dialer touch lock settings – Off, 2s, 5s, and 10s.

Users can now disable threaded text messaging via Systems Settings. It now possesses pop-up keyboard keys like the iPhone, better kinetic scrolling in Samsung apps and a new Samsung Volume Control.
