WhatsApp now boasts of 500 million users, over 48 million are from India

WhatsApp is growing by leaps and bounds. The developers of the instant messaging application have revealed that it has over 500 million users across the world, as of now. And an official blog post insists that all of them are regular and active subscribers of the messenger.

WhatsApp has been adopted by people all over the world, but the company has seen a steep growth in a few select countries. These include Brazil, India, Russia, and Mexico. In fact, about 48 million subscribers of the application come from India. The app’s ‘business guy,’ Neeraj Arora himself told BGR India about India’s participation.

People not only use this platform for instantly sending messages, but also share pictures as well as videos with friends. Its developers say that close to 70 million images and about 100 million videos are sent and received on a daily basis through this app. Only recently we had learnt that the messenger processes up to 64 billion messages per day and it surpassed SMS way back.

Towards the end of January, the Facebook-owned startup had revealed that they have around 430 million active users and in about three months, the number had gone up by 70 million. And as we had reported earlier, WhatsApp took merely 4 months to go from 200 million users to 400 million.

Facebook, now the parent company of the app in question, rules the roost in the social networking department with close to 100 million Indian users. And out of these, about 84 million log in through their phones. We don’t think WhatsApp will take very long to reach this number, going by its growth rate across the globe.
