Welcome the LG KC910, 8 megapixel camera phone

LG KC910.jpgLG, the Korean giant has officially announced the LG KC910. The slim touch camera phone reckons to be the spiritual successor to the KU990 Viewty. The LG KC910 will be a tough competitor to the newly launched Sony Ericsson C905 and Samsung INNOV8.

Acclaimed to be an all-in-one multimedia phone by LG, the KC910 is also the slimmest camera phone measuring only 14mm in thickness. The phone is fully equipped with Dolby sound, DivX and XviD for video playback, built-in GPS, a geotagging feature for photos, multiple codec support and much more.

The camera ensures you don’t miss out on those special moments. The highly functional 8 mega pixel camera boasts of a Xenon flash, Schneider-Kreuznach lens, ISO sensitivity of up to 1600, and video capture in VGA resolution at 30fps. With a recording capability of QVGA video at up to 120fps, the camera feature is great fun. You can also choose to shoot manually in addition to the face, smile and blink detection and image stabilizer features. It is more of a dedicated point-and-shoot camera rather than a regular cellphone one.

Other than the camera, the LG KC910 sports of a much faster internet connection than the Viewty or Prada. It comprises of both Wi-Fi as well as 3G cellular data support via HSDPA with up to 7.2Mbps speeds downstream. The phone additionally features Bluetooth 2.0, a microSD card slot expandable up to 8GB, support for quad-band GSM and a TV-out for watching both still images and videos on a large LCD screen.

The Korea based company however, does not reveal the name of the operating system for the phone. There are no indications on whether the device will use some variant on the Linux-based software like most of the other LG touchscreen phones or if it will switch to Windows Mobile or a similar OS.

Though LG is part of the Open Handset Alliance backing Google’s Android platform, it has no plans to officially launch an Android device until 2009.
The LG KC910 will launch this October and should possibly release in North America rather than Asia and Europe due to the region’s limited tri-band. There is no word on the price and the exact release date yet.
