WebMD introduces free mobile application for physicians

WebMD Medscape Mobile WebMD Health Corp. recently revealed Medscape Mobile, a medical application that is beneficial to the physicians. The application provides physicians with important medical information in a suitable mobile format which can be accessed easily via their iPhone or iPod Touch.

The application offers information about drugs, clinical reference tools, medical news and continuing medical education (CME). Apparently, it presents specialty-specific news from Medscape’s professional news team. CME activities that are planned by specialty and designed for mobile use are also incorporated within this application.

“Medscape Mobile extends the reach of Medscape’s information and applications from the desktop to the mobile devices that physicians are already using in a variety of clinical settings. Our online physician audience will now have access to Medscape’s comprehensive medical information in their specialty, wherever and whenever they need it,” stated Steve Zatz, M.D., Executive Vice President, WebMD.

The app provides database of over 6,000 generic and brand name drugs, in addition to hundreds of herbals, supplements and antidotes. The app is inclusive of the WebMD health directory that incorporates contact information of more than 400,000 physicians, 57,000 pharmacies, and 6,000 hospitals in a handy search format. Further, it presents drug interaction checker that shows interactions for a combination of up to 30 drugs, herbals or supplements instantly.

Presently, the application is available on the iPhone and iPod Touch and the company also plans to offer it on additional mobile platforms like BlackBerry, later this year. They would be introducing additional mobile features in near future.

Users can download Medscape for iPhone and iPod Touch from the Apple iTunes App Store or under ‘free apps’ in the Medical segment.
