Virgin Mobile Kyocera Event outed in US out, joins league of budget smartphones

The Kyocera Event price has been announced through Virgin Mobile and the phone will retail for $79.99, exclusive of taxes and without a contract agreement. The applicable subscriptions for the handset start at $35 per month.

The device is an endeavor by the company to offer a smartphone that goes easy on the pocket. Since Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is the preferred environment for this device, users will have access to a plethora of applications and games through the Play store. Consumers can also avail of apps that are specific to the carrier in question, in addition to other preloaded tools and services.

A 1GHz Snapdragon CPU powers up the device and is provided assistance from 512MB of RAM. Data of up to 4GB can be hoarded onto the phone and further extension of 32GB is possible through a microSD card. The handset is kept running owing to the 1500mAh Li-ion battery that would permit a talktime of around 8.7 hours or a standby time of approximately 6.25 days. Furthermore, the Eco Mode software helps monitor and reduce power consumption.

This wallet-friendly phone is kept compact owing to its dimensions that measure only 115mm x 61.3mm x 11.8mm and a weight of just 117 grams. A 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen sprawls across the front panel and users can easily insert text through the Swype attribute incorporated in the virtual keypad. An eye-catching feature would have to be MagniFont which as per the maker’s claim, is an extra large text size that allows users to easily view whatever is displayed on their device.

Moments can be captured in the form of pictures and videos through the 3.2MP camera with LED flash that is placed on the rear of the smartphone. Connectivity is enabled through Wireless LAN, Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS.

The Kyocera Event has been put up for sale on the network provider’s website for the previously said amount shaded in black. An exclusive variant drenched in red will also be sold through RadioShack starting March 3.
