Putting an end to all the rumors and hearsay, the Verizon Wireless LG Lucid has now been officially announced by the network carrier. For the past few days, the grapevine has been abuzz with speculations about the possible specifications, release date and price details of this LG offering.

Aimed at those who are transitioning from feature phones to smart devices for the first time, the handset should offer an easy using and learning experience. The front panel shows off a 4-inch touchscreen which is securely covered with Corning Gorilla glass. Operating on Gingerbread, the gadget is said to be upgradeable to Android 4.0. Equipped with the Polaris Office app, the smartphone can also be used to create, edit and read Microsoft Office documents.

The flip side of the Lucid is dotted by a 5MP camera with auto focus and flash. It is capable of recording 1080p full HD videos. This is supported by a front facing snapper too. The pre-loaded Video Producer application lets users make and edit HD footage directly on the handset. Previously known as Cayman, the device also features the Swype virtual keyboard. It has been embedded with a 1.2GHz dual core processor as well as 1GB of RAM.

The Verizon Wireless LG Lucid release date and price have now been revealed by the network carrier. Starting March 29, it will be made available via Verizon Wireless Communications Stores and through the operator’s website. It can be picked up for $79.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate. Subscribers will be required to sign a new two-year user agreement.
