Network OperatorsVerizon to launch its own App Store

Verizon to launch its own App Store

Verizon Wireless Logo Engadget reports that Verizon Wireless is soon going to launch an app store. Furthermore, it is said to support only its own store and no other app store.

According to this new decree from Verizon, customers will not have access to BlackBerry App World or Windows Mobile Marketplace from the start. Therefore, customers will have to download these portals themselves.

This stance from Verizon is also going to be troublesome for developers. If developers want to ensure that Verizon customers will purchase a certain app they will have no choice but to submit the same app twice for approval.

However, this app store will be convenient for Verizon customers as there will be a more streamlined approval process and a competitive revenue-sharing program. Also customers will not require credit card entry while purchasing Verizon apps as payment will be done through the Verizon account of each customer.

For more information, wait till the Verizon Developer Community Conference on July 28.
