Verizon Wireless has refreshed its Verizon Messages app to version 2.0 for Android smartphones and tablets. The update brings along with it a new user interface and two messaging services namely, Group Conversations and Location Messaging.

The Verizon app lets users send as well as receive SMS and MMS messages via any Android smartphone or tablet and through this update, they can now do so on the same Wi-Fi network or mobile hotspot. With the Group Conversations feature, users are able to share messages with a number of people that are stored within the same conversation thread. The Location Messaging service facilitates sharing of a location or place of interest with others by conveniently attaching it to a message.

Android smartphone and tablet owners can store a backup of their SMS messages on the microSD card. The improved interface displays pop-up notifications for new messages on the main screen and features a message counter in the tablet version. The new 2.0 update comes with various tips and reminders regarding messages and even lends support to varied foreign languages such as Spanish, simple Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and French, among others.

A new Batch mode has been introduced to this application through which users are allowed to select multiple messages for deleting or saving on a microSD card. Additionally, the upgraded app features 3D message bubbles which further helps to customize the bubble and background colors.

The Verizon Messages app version 2.0 can now be downloaded from the Android Market for free.
