Verizon corroborates Android with Google Maps Navigation for Droid Eris

HTC Droid ErisHTC had made no bones about the fact that it plans to provide Heros with Android 2.0 or 2.1 at some point, even though neither Sprint nor Verizon had swiftly followed on to promise users that there would be upgrades on their versions.

But there is some good news stored in for Droid Eris users. Verizon has declared that a newer version of Android would be released along with built-in Google Maps Navigation in the handset in the first quarter of 2010, reports Engadget.

Supposedly, the Droid Eris is basically Verizon’s version of the HTC Hero and presently works on the older Android 1.5 OS.

As Google’s navigation app currently runs on 1.6, one doesn’t really know as to which version of the Android could work on Droid Eris. But an estimated guess could be Android 2.0 or 2.1.

We have to wait for the 1st quarter of 2010 to see which version of Android, the Droid Eris is getting upgraded with.
