U.S. Cellular brings Samsung Galaxy S smartphone to U.S.

Samsung Galaxy SSamsung seems to be riding high on the its recently added Android smartphones. The company has now teamed up with U.S. Cellular to announce the upcoming availability of the Samsung Galaxy S smartphone. The new Android 2.1 powered device brings in entertainment, messaging and a social networking experience in an enticing streamlined design with a stunning 4-inch display.

This super AMOLED touchscreen device offers innovative display technology for better viewing of movies, videos and playing games. The phone works pretty well even in bright light and outdoor environments. It also supports Google Mobile Services including Android Market, Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube and Google Talk making it quite approachable.

“We are excited about the release of this Android-powered smartphone. The Galaxy S delivers on our customers’ need to have popular applications at their fingertips while keeping them in touch with those who matter most,” stated Ed Perez, vice-president of marketing and sales for U.S. Cellular.

With Samsung’s Social Hub feature, users can receive or send information whether its e-mail, instant messaging, social network updates or SMS messages. Text messaging in this handset are enhanced with group messaging and ‘reply all’ functionality for up to 10 contacts, a threaded conversations format, a consolidated inbox and multi-media display. In addition, the phone synchronizes the calendar information from portal calendars such as Google Calendar and social networking services into one calendar.

Omar Khan, chief strategy officer for Samsung Mobile, remarked, “The Samsung Galaxy S smartphone coming soon to U.S. Cellular customers is a premium Android device equipped with Samsung’s Galaxy S class of features,” and further added, “The Galaxy S series of smartphones offers users superior features, including a Samsung 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird Application Processor, Samsung’s Super AMOLED touch screen technology, along with entertainment, messaging and social networking applications.”

The handset boasts of the 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird Application processor for faster uploading and downloading of HD-like multimedia content with 3D graphics. The phone is designed with a six-axis sensor that smartly links the devices accelerometer and gyroscope to render a smooth fluid gaming experience when the user is titling the phone up or down or panning it to the left or right. The user interface lends support to a series of advanced touch screen gesture capabilities including multi-touch pinch, long tap and zoom, vertical and horizontal swiping. This gestures provide easy access to an array of applications with location-based services, Web browsing and digital photos.

Users who like to tap their fingers now and then may find it quite easy to use the virtual QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard is enrolled with Swype technology which enables users to text faster in a more natural way with one continuous finger motion across the screen keyboard. Mobile enthusiasts can now send video content wirelessly to other DLNA-enabled devices such as TVs, computers and monitors thanks to the Samsung’s All Share application. This feature allows a rich and interactive entertainment experience. Users can get their hands on the Samsung Media Hub which is a library of video and literary content in the future as well.

Photographers can now click photos by the 5 megapixel camera/camcorder with auto-focus and HD video recording (720p). MP3 player, 3.5 millimeter headphone jack and expandable memory for photos, videos and music with a memory up to 32GB using microSD make the phone an exception in its kind. Other functions included are the Wi-Fi 802.11, Bluetooth 3.0, daily briefing widget for easy access to weather, news, stocks and the calendar.

The Samsung Galaxy S smartphone will be available at the company’s official website. Pricing details have yet not been cleared.
