Detroit Media Partnership has revealed the release of new apps for The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press on the iPhone, BlackBerry and Android mobile phones.

Sponsored by the Southeast Michigan Ford Dealers, the free apps put forth the latest news in sports, business and entertainment headlines. The Global Positioning System technology offers localized weather and traffic updates depending on current location anywhere in the world.

Developed in collaboration with DoApp, the apps are a part of Detroit Media Partnership’s strategic plan to expand the distribution of content on multiple platforms. DoApp’s platform Mobile Local News is presently used by more than 200 television news stations, radio stations, and newspapers in more than 80 U.S. markets.

iPhone and Android users can now grab these free apps from the Apple App Store and Android Market. Besides, BlackBerry users must access detnews.mlnwap.com for The Detroit News and dfp.mlnwap.com for Detroit Free Press until icons are posted at the BlackBerry App World which is expected in the next week.
