TextExpander touch for iPhone launched by SmileOnMyMac

Text Expander Touch The iPhone version of SmileOnMyMac’s customizable typing shortcut tool has now been released. This new version is called TextExpander touch and will be offered for purchase as well as download via the iPhone App Store.

Users can enter frequently-used text with the help of short abbreviations through the TextExpander touch. They can send them to mail and Twitter clients immediately after the notes are composed using the TextExpander shortcuts. Other iPhone apps can also use this feature by simply using copy-and-paste function. With multiple snippet groups, each snippet has its own menu to offer. Snippet contents can be also sent directly to Mail and Twitter clients or copied to the Clipboard with some simple taps.

Greg Scown, co-founder of SmileOnMyMac mentioned, “We believe this is a win-win for both TextExpander touch and for iPhone application developers. Having additional applications with integrated TextExpander functionality makes TextExpander touch more useful on the iPhone. Applications which support the TextExpander engine make text entry easier for their users.”

Snippet groups with their iPhone via a local network can be accessed by users who possess this new version on the Mac. The other condition is that both the Mac and the iPhone must be on the same WiFi network. Additionally, these snippet groups can be shared between a number of devices. Unlike Mac, it does not work in the background due to some limitations of the iPhone OS.

Before transferring to another application, notes need to be composed in this update version first. They can add predefined Groups like accented words, symbols, HTML and CSS. Moreover, TextExpander snippets can be added from the Mac through the local network.

Along with this new offering, SmileOnMyMac also made public the TextExpander touch Software Development Kit (SDK). iPhone developers can integrate the TextExpander functionality into their applications through this Kit. A free TextExpander engine library and sample code is included in the Kit.

However, iPhone or iPod Touch operating on OS 3.0 or later is required for the functionality of the new version. The TextExpander is offered for a special price of $14.98 until September 9, 2009.
