LTE has been expected to be capable of delivering the next generation in communications for a long time now. TeliaSonera, in collaboration with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks introduced 4G modems operating on the LTE networks in Sweden and Norway back in December 2009. Northstreaming claims that the TeliaSonera LTE network delivers downlink data rates of up to 45MB/s according to their second round of tests.
Previously, the market research company had claimed that the connection speed never crossed 12MB/s, though the promised speed was cited as 50MB/s. The company now states that the test was conducted from an indoor location and wasn’t actually indicative of the speeds that TeliaSonera’s LTE technology can proffer.
This time around, Northstreaming has clearly pointed out that live testing conducted at outdoor and indoor locations over the weekend have rendered better results. Data rates of over 25MB/s were experienced often with the downlink speed even touching 45MB/s on some occasions.
At this stage, LTE seems to have ample scope for further development and better results can obviously be awaited patiently.
