Telegent and Brightstar collaborate to unveil Avvio 505, soccer TV phone

To cash in on the craze of the Football World cup, different companies are coming up with innovative ideas to promote their products. Well, Telegent has teamed up with Brightstar to offer a unique low-priced mobile phone that can deliver live, free-to-air broadcast TV to Latin American and African users before this summer’s 2010 soccer World Cup in South Africa. Brightstar’s Avvio 505 device, which integrates Telegent’s free-to-air analog mobile TV receive can deliver users on-the-move with an inexpensive means to see this summer’s soccer matches.

The Avvio 505 appears to include additional draw to the sports fan as the phone also comes with personalized colors and flags of those countries taking part in this summer’s soccer event.

“With the Avvio 505, we are delivering a model designed to appeal to sports fans in the Latin American and African markets. In these markets, consumers have a passion for soccer, and all eyes will be on the events unfolding real time this summer in South Africa. The combination of voice and TV in a low-cost handset is very compelling for consumers who want to follow the matches live, whether they are at work, home, or on the road,” commented, Jaime Narea, vice-president of Brightstar’s Idea to Consumer Division.

“We are delighted to work with Brightstar on this innovative campaign. Global sporting events provide a unique draw, and the Avvio 505 is well positioned to make the televised matches broadly accessible to the Latin American and African mobile consumers,” stated, Samuel Sheng, president and chief executive officer of Telegent.

Apart from the voice, SMS, TV and FM radio, the handset sports a 2.0 inch screen, measures 43X101X13.3mm, and offers 240 minutes of incessant talk time. The TV and FM radio attributes delivered by Telegent’s mobile TV receiver, supply users with one-button mobile logging on to live, free-to-air analog television and radio broadcasts.

Avivo 505 is all set to be available from select operator and retail channels all through Latin America and Africa before the World Cup. The cost of the mobile phone is presently not known.
