TechFaith and D Magic Mobile team up to deliver Barbie-branded phone in China

TechFaith DMagic MobileIt’s been raining smartphones the past few months in mobile terrain while more than a handful of stylish handsets have also marked their presence. Hoping to strike a chord with teenagers and kids fancying dolls, TechFaith collaborates with D Magic Mobile to introduce the Barbie-branded phone. The handset will be offered by Glomate Mobile in the Chinese market. This company has obtained a non-exclusive license from Mattel to produce this handset in the country.

Though the handset has been christened by the Barbie namesake, it seems to pack in a bundle of interesting features. The easy-to-use attributes should particularly hold the attention of the eve clan with its vibrant pink hue. This handset further boasts of a 3.0” touchscreen and supports the dual band 900/1800 GSM network.

“Our investor, D Magic Mobile, has spent a lot of time developing a mobile phone that would be true to the powerful Barbie brand. This transcends packaging, product design, features and the overall user experience,” remarked Wayne Lu, the president of Glomate Mobile. “As D Magic’s sole sales agent in China, we hope consumers in China will love to receive and use the Barbie mobile phones.”

Deyou Dong, the Chief Operating Officer of TechFaith, commented, “This is another important step in TechFaith’s branding efforts. This is the first official Barbie-branded phone to launch in the China market and we are optimistic about a positive response from consumers. In the longer term, we will work to further build our relationship with the Barbie brand and leverage this success into other growth efforts underway in our branding business.”

The phone is seemingly designed to target girls who like more of today’s pop culture. It packs in a 2MP camera and Bluetooth support as well. With the integrated high quality MP3 or MP4, users can listen to their favorite tracks anytime, anywhere.

The pricing detail of the Barbie-brand phone is still under wraps. Users can expect to gain a first look at the handset on July 27, 2010 at Mattel Inc.’s flagship Barbie store in Shanghai.
