Tata Communications offers prepaid roaming at 2008 Beijing Olympics

Beijing Olympics 2008 Tata Communications has facilitated prepaid roaming at the Beijing Olympics with its Intelligent CAMEL eXchange (ICX). The cost and time of executing global prepaid roaming relationships between mobile operators is cut down drastically by this service.

One of China’s largest mobile phone operators and four of the world’s largest network operators will come together and use Tata’s Communications’ extensive service to establish prepaid roaming to the Olympic Games. This service will enable great incoming prepaid roaming facilities for all partners of the Chinese carriers.

Allan Chan, Executive Vice President, Mobility Services for Tata Communications stated, “Operators have a strong appetite these days for extending the reach of their CAMEL connectivity, allowing them both to expand the coverage of their international prepaid roaming service and to reap the advantages of CAMEL-based postpaid roaming. Market response to Intelligent CAMEL eXchange is strong. For Intelligent CAMEL eXchange, Beijing is the start of things to come. Close to twenty mobile network operators worldwide are currently testing ICX and turning to TATA Communications to expand their CAMEL roaming footprint.”

Even though conditions for roaming in developing markets are very complicated Tata’s Intelligent CAMEL eXchange has made it possible for operators to offer prepaid roaming beginning with Beijing. ICX offers remote testing, normalization and intelligent signaling thereby allowing operators to further increase their CAMEL reach. Technical incongruities between networks are resolved because of the synchronization of CAMEL messaging with Tata Communications’ hosted ICX infrastructure.

ICX also supports Virtual Home Environment (VHE) facilities, thus not only increasing call completion rates but also improving customer experience.
