Symbian Belle rechristened Nokia Belle, arriving in February

Nokia Belle

Unveiled with much pomp earlier this year, the Symbian Belle software has been given a new name and will now be known as Nokia Belle. This updated version of the Symbian Anna mobile platform will be rolled out to all existing Nokia phone users in February next year.

The new Nokia user interface was released along with the Nokia 701, Nokia 700 and Nokia 603 smartphones three months ago, in September this year. The renamed software is scheduled to commence shipping along with certain smartphones that are already on the market.

The improved variants of the Nokia N8, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01 mobile devices which will come preloaded with this software are already on their way to hit shelves of China and are set to debut in other countries around the world, soon thereafter. The Nokia Conversations blog reveals that owners of the Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia E6, Nokia X7, Nokia C6-01, Nokia C7 and Nokia Oro will receive the update in 2012. They would be entitled to experience a better performance as compared to the previous Symbian Anna.

While Symbian Anna offered three homescreens to users, Nokia Belle will be giving them access to six, for incorporating more apps and widgets. The homescreen widgets have undergone various changes for the better and have also been made more functional. Certain ones, such as the email widget have become easier to operate and its cleaner, sharper look will facilitate the reading of emails with just a glance.

The company states that just like it renamed the Ovi Store to the Nokia Store, the rechristening procedure was carried out for this platform too. Nokia’s aim is to dub all its services with the brand name so that users can identify with them in a better way and easily search for related details.

The Nokia Belle update will be available in February 2012.
