Sony Xperia Z2 unveiled in India for Rs 49990, SmartBand lands for Rs 5990

Talk about competitive pricing for the Sony Xperia Z2 that has been launched in India holding onto a Rs 49,990 tag. The Z2 is the latest flagship device from a major brand to enter the country in this half of 2014, with the others being Samsung’s Galaxy S5 and HTC’s new One M8.

Let’s not pretend it’s going to be an easy entry for the Sony Xperia Z2 because even if Samsung hasn’t officially reduced the price of its Galaxy S5, certain retailers across the country are selling it for as low as Rs 42000 and the brand is comparatively more popular too. It’s not bad timing, but rather bad luck which is haunting the launch of this latest handset from the Japanese company.

PhoneArena reported that the Sony Xperia Z2 which was supposed to hit the market in March would make its debut later because of supply delays. The smartphone was unveiled today in India along with the SmartBand fitness tracker which is pegged at Rs 5990. It will work with HSPA+ and GSM networks in the country and just like the Galaxy S5 and M8, users have the option to slip in a 128GB microSD card.

The Z2 works with 3GB of RAM and a quad core Snapdragon 801 processor from Qualcomm. Photography enthusiasts may fall for the 20.7MP camera on the back which can record videos in 4K resolution. Since we’re talking about anexpensive Xperia phone here, it goes without saying that the company has built it to clear IP55 and IP58 certification for water and dust resistance.
