Sony PlayStation 4 app for Android and iOS on the cards

The Sony PlayStation 4 app for Android and iOS which was announced to be in the pipeline at the unveiling of the new generation console, should be something most ardent players are looking forward to. While the actual gaming unit surprisingly turned out to be a no-show (with not even an official photo of it) at the event, a lot of interesting details were given out anyway.

It starts with the PS4 positioned as being a very social console thanks to the DualShock 4 controller’s Share button and featuring a neat second screen system. The secondary screen element being spoken of means compatibility with the Vita. But it doesn’t stop just there. There is also the chance that tablets and smartphones will be able to serve as companion devices to the new gaming unit. It’s just a speculation, of course. And we may be too many software and hardware glitches away from that hope.

PS4 Android & iOS App

Continuing with the story of what has and has not been confirmed by the Japanese multinational solely in terms of what it may bring to the mobile terrain, the only thing the company has asserted this far is that users can expect some cool gameplay possibilities in the future. Connected tablet and smartphone users will be able to remotely watch their friends play and even go on a recce of maps during an adventure game, right from their mobile gadget’s display. We will only have a clear idea of the second screen liberties handset and slab owners will get to take once the said application hits Google Play and iTunes or the console itself reaches shelves.

As far as the compatibility of the Sony PlayStation 4 app for Android and iOS is concerned, the company presently maintains that it will be launched for the iPad and iPhone, but has stayed away from commenting on the tablet and handset brands it will gel with when it waters down to the Google mobile OS. There is no word about the exact date on which the console will hit the market. All we know is that it will be arriving during the holiday season of 2013.
