Skype For Android Video Calls

Skype, previously known for its VOIP and IM service on Android devices receives an upgrade. Skype for Android now comes equipped with video calling capabilities, allowing users to connect over Wi-Fi and 3G. A highlighted attribute of the update is support to cross-platforms like commencing a video call from a smartphone to a PC.

The software will feature one-to-one video calling with users on the iPhone, Mac, Windows PC and certain TVs for free. Also users can send and receive SMS messages, make calls to landlines and mobiles globally at given company rates.

This version comes with a redesigned user interface, new main menu for easy navigation through contacts, check Skype credit and options to access user profiles and edit personal data. The new mood message box allows a status to be added. This box is located above the apps menu. Calls can also be made through the dial key.

As per the official Skype blog, the update is available to users having phones with front facing cameras running Android 2.3 and above. Supported handsets include the HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, Xperia pro and Google’s Nexus S.

Skype for Android is available via the Android Market and Skype.com/m. The company also hinted at a newer update supporting more phones to arrive soon.
