Skylock is a grinder-proof bike lock that needs no keys

Us Muggles are so good at losing keys, we should be thanking the wizards behind Skylock, the sun-loving bike lock which needs nothing but your smartphone to get locked or unlocked. And in case your don’t have the connected handset on you, there’s still the set of capacitive buttons on the lock which will let you free your bicycle from the post to which it is attached.

First off, the Skylock gets locked automatically once you slide the shackle into the lockbar. And when you want to hop on to your bike, there are three ways of unlocking the device. The first one as we mentioned above, allows you to key in a combination directly on it. You can also set this cool harness to unlock itself when it detects your smartphone’s presence.

The phone in question will need to have the Skylock app downloaded and installed on it. Optionally, you can open up this application if you wish to unlock the device from within the interface. So you’re afraid of bicycle thieves applying a grinder to your fancy-schmaltzy new toy? It will be able to recognize when someone’s trying to mess with it and send you an alert over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

If you’re into bike-sharing, the application lets you notify others in your network about the location of your two-wheeler and also offer them access to it. A integrated solar panel keeps the battery inside charged for up to a week after an hour in the sun and there’s a feature to alert family, friends or authorities in case you get into an accident.

Skylock App

It’d be a shame attaching the Skylock to a ride worth less than $159, because that’s how much this bike lock costs. Here’s the official web page from where you can place your order. Shipping will kick off early next year.
