Samsung to launch 3G UbiCell Personal CDMA Base Station

Samsung Mobile Logo Samsung is all set to launch the 3G UbiCell Personal CDMA Base Station in the first half of 2010. Specially designed for homes and small organizations, the 3G UbiCell is a small plug-and-play base station that functions on users’ existing mobile phones to offer secure, in-home cellular service as compared to the existing public broadband networks.

Users can benefit from the 3G UbiCell that offers higher performance, lower cost coverage in a secure, easy to install solution at home. It allows carriers to offer cost-effective solution to offload rapidly increasing 3G traffic from the Macro network. The 3G UbiCell offers advanced signal quality to fulfill users’ needs for in-home coverage. The 3G UbiCell also brings new attractive service like home phone and incentives with bundled pricing.

“The 3G UbiCell enables our customers to quickly provide the complete home experience with guaranteed full wireless services plus the integrated home services to give a rich offering of converged services,” said Nivi Thadasina, Director of Product Development, Samsung Mobile.

With 3G UbiCell, users no longer need the landline telephone. With its reliable in-home coverage, users don’t need to shell out separate charges for basic features like long-distance, voicemail, called ID and call waiting available on their landline. With UbiCell, all carriers can provide differentiated services that are typical to femtocell like presence and home network. With a view to increase the growth of revenue through additional MOUs and service plans, UbiCell also offers services like home phone and multi-number ringing.

Like the previous solution, 3G UbiCell is simple to install with automatic configuration, plug-and-play and remote operation and maintenance. Users can directly use the system without any further technical assistance. Users simply need to connect the 3G UbiCell to an Ethernet port on their broadband internet router. Then plug it to an AC power outlet and switch it on. Once installed, the UbiCell registers with the network to configure and start the service in just few minutes.

The 3G UbiCell comes with built-in GPS that provides highly precise location information for E911 calls and location based services. It helps in eliminating eavesdropping with built-in authentication and over-the-air encryption inherent to CDMA. IPSec based VPN connectivity to Carriers network is assured with confidentiality and authenticity. Samsung’s UbiCell Manager helps in monitoring and managing all the UbiCells. It simplifies operation and maintenance activities.

It supports 3G-CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev A & 1X (Simultaneous Operation), and 800/1900 MHz dual-band (Simultaneous operation), Multi-FA/Omni Simultaneous and eight simultaneous users. At 1lb, the system measures around 5.8-inch x 7.8-inch x 1.5-inch.

By developing 3G UbiCell Personal CDMA Base Station, Samsung delivers a unique solution that offers a safer in-home cellular service to its users worldwide.
