Empowering women: Google, Samsung, Aircel to promote internet adoption via HWGO

Google, Samsung and Aircel have partnered over a deal to promote women’s empowerment by pushing for internet adoptions roughly 8 months after the last mentioned company launched its HWGO campaign in India. The idea is to get more of the female population using the web via training sessions and the HWGO website.

Back in 2013, we had reported that Axis Bank, Intel and Hindustan Unilever Limited were among the brands lending a helping hand with this task and now Samsung has joined the party too because it just makes sense. After all, more and more people are using mobile devices to access the internet. The target is divided into two groups consisting of over 4 million literate women from low income backgrounds and girl students.

Aircel’s part in the initiative also does not need much explanation since an increasing number of people use data services on their mobiles to surf the web. Reportedly, only one out of three women in India access the internet, and the companies mentioned above want to change that scenario.

As part of the campaign, Aircel will be offering free mobile data amounting to 500MB valid for six months. Samsung’s participation in the venture will see the free data being available to those who buy certain phones made by it, with the exact models yet to be revealed. Trainers at HWGO activation platforms will also be present to help customers get started with the internet.
