It’s been quite some time since Samsung Star made its appearance in the mobile terrain. Back in August last year, the company revealed that the handset surpassed the 5 million mark. Coming a long way, Samsung Star S5230 has now sailed through the 30 million unit mark and is claimed to hit this particular milestone quicker than any other Samsung product.

After making its debut in May 2009, it touched the 10 million and 20 million sales marks in a span of just six months and a year respectively. Since its launch, the Star shone brightly across various parts of the globe. In places such as Europe, Latin America, Russia and China, 15 million, 5 million and 3 million units were sold individually. The device has also made its way to the acme positions on Germany and Austria’s phone lists.

“We are very pleased with the phenomenal success of the Samsung Star,” revealed YH Lee, senior vice president of Marketing for the Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics. “Samsung is aiming to take the lead in the global full touch-screen mobile and dominate the market with our diverse product line up and customized marketing approach.”

As the company suggests, the S5230 is noted to enter in second place with Samsung E250 sitting at top position as far as selling 30 million units is concerned. The handset is packed with innovative multimedia features and dressed in a chic design that caters to next generation users. They can take complete advantage of the Samsung’s TouchWiz User Interface with Mobile Widgets along with a 3.0-inch WQVGA full-touchscreen.

“Samsung Star is our fastest selling touch screen mobile in the mid segment touch mobile phones .Based on the success of our touch screen mobile phones like Samsung Star, Corby series and Samsung Champ, we expect our touch screen contribution to be over 20% of our total mobile phone volumes this year,” said Ranjit Yadav , Country Head , Samsung Mobile and IT.

Owners can simply dial a friend or family member’s number by touching the desired picture of that individual. For shutter-bugs, it hosts a 3.2 mega-pixel camera that includes SmileShot and video recording supporting QVGA at 15fps. Music enthusiasts can avail of Shazam’s ‘Find Music’ service as well as 50MB of internal memory and external memory slot for housing up to 8GB. Other attributes include an accelerometer sensor, complete Internet browsing, handwriting features, Smart Unlock and onscreen QWERTY keyboard.

The company has also revealed the Indian pricing details of the Samsung Star NXT. The device comes to the country tagged at Rs.7,350.
