Samsung shows off a foldable tablet, it will be out in 2015

The Samsung Galaxy Fold will be a nice name if an Android-powered foldable tablet is ever released by the company in 2015 or a few years later. If it’s a Tizen-based product, the OEM could go with just Samsung Fold. Speculations like these have started, though we know nothing official about this apparent foldable tablet has been said or heard in the recent past.

We now however, have some important details about the Samsung Galaxy Fold to look at. Early 2015 is when the foldable tablet will supposedly be released by the company. This slightly contradicts a fact the mobile giant had revealed at an analysts’ conference last year: that it will be bringing such products into the market by 2016 to 2017.

Samsung Foldable Tablet

As spotted by Gizmodo on a Korean site called Daum, the news is that this foldable tablet from Samsung IP will be 8 or 9 inches in size. Its touchscreen panel will be made up of a sort of plastic substrate, allowing it to be folded as many as three times. This will enable the device to become more compact in terms of size.

Reportedly (and quite obviously), the manufacturing costs of such a tablet would be quite high and this could force to Samsung reconsider whether it can be marketed as a viable consumer product or not. After all, we don’t want it to meet the same fate as the Galaxy Round. The company is also said to be working on a ‘killer app’ for the gizmo which will take full advantage of its foldable form factor.

This foldable Samsung tablet is a completely different affair from the Galaxy Round phablet. Let’s wait and watch for what’s in store for now.
