Samsung drops in Blue Earth, first solar-powered full touchscreen phone

Blue EarthSamsung has released ‘Blue Earth’, apparently, the first solar powered full touchscreen phone. The Blue Earth is seen in the color of blue and resembles a flat pebble.

The handset features a user interface that made to create awareness about preserving our delicate eco-system. Users can set the screen brightness, backlight duration along with Bluetooth to an energy saving mode by simply clicking ‘Eco Mode.’ The phone also comes with ‘Eco Walk’ application that allows you to count the number of steps you have taken, through the integrated pedometer. This smart function helps you to calculate how much CO2 emissions have been reduced by walking. It then calculates that value into the number of tree that has been saved in the bargain.

The Blue Earth is made from recycled plastic known as PCM which is extracted from water bottles. This helps to lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions during the manufacturing process. In addition, the device’s hardware, along with the energy efficient charger, is built excluding harmful substances like Brominated Flame Retardants, Beryllium and Phthalate. The charger boasts of a power consumption lower than 0.03W.

As for the solar powered functionality, the solar panels are featured on the back of the device. You can recharge your phone anytime by just placing it in the sunlight. Samsung even delivers the handset in a tiny box made from recycled paper.

Samsung will display the Blue Earth phone along with its other ‘Blue Earth Dream’ projects at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona. Pricing and availability details are not yet given.
