Samsung christens four new Galaxy smartphones while revealing their taxonomy

Samsung Galaxy M Pro Samsung has explained its new naming system for classifying its Galaxy range of smartphones, while also introducing four handsets running on Android 2.3. The new additions to this range of smartphones are Galaxy W, Galaxy M Pro, Galaxy Y and Galaxy Y Pro.

Henceforth, Galaxy smartphones will mainly be classified with a single character. Attributes like Pro, Plus, and LTE will be tagged to clarify more on the devices’ main specifications. Following the successful run of Galaxy S II, the character S, defined by the company as Super Smart, will from now be reserved for flagship devices which are expected to deliver the best among the entire range of Samsung mobile phones.

“As Samsung continues to innovate, our goal is to provide consumers with an experience uniquely tailored to their needs. We have introduced steps to ensure users can simply identify the device designed to deliver the perfect experience for them,” expressed JK Shin, President and Head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business.

Of the four newly announced products, Galaxy W is said to be designed to suit the needs of fast paced users. The device is powered by a 1.4GHz processor and allows HSDPA 14.4Mbps connectivity. With a 3.7-inch touchscreen, it provides an enhanced gaming and social networking experience. The ones in the W series, elaborated as Wonder, will be created with an aim to strike a balance between style and performance.

The second in line after ‘Wonder’ would be a ‘Magic pro’, or the Samsung Galaxy M Pro. The sub-classification pro specifies a QWERTY keypad while the category M is reserved for units which deliver high performance at satisfying prices. This smartphone is said to be designed for on the go professionals. With an optical trackpad and a touchscreen, the handset is 9.97mm slim and also provides solutions like Exchange ActiveSync, Sybase Afaria, CISCO Mobile and CISCO WebEx.

Continuing this selection are the Samsung Galaxy Y and Y Pro. The Y specifies young, thus indicating these to be entry level introductions for the young generation. Equipped with Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, The Galaxy Y handset runs on an 832MHz processor. For facilitating social connectivity, the Galaxy Y comes pre-loaded with Samsung’s Social Hub, whereas the Galaxy Y Pro is supported by Social Hub Premium. The first will be released in a variety of colors and is equipped with SWYPE for convenient typing.

Apart from this, the company has conveyed another classification in its Galaxy range, represented by the letter R, better described as royal or refined. These models are expected to be premium handsets, which present a balanced blend of power, performance and productivity. Giving further elucidation about the sub-classifications, Samsung has talked about Plus and LTE. Plus denotes an upgraded model, while LTE naturally implies LTE connectivity and 4G standards.

For now, Samsung has decided to keep a lid on the pricing and availability of these smartphones in the Galaxy assortment.
