With the latest Motorola Quantico clamshell, one more rugged handset has been added to Motorola’s portfolio. The submersible design permits the handset to withstand up to one meter of water for about 30 minutes.

The clamshell features a 2.2-inch display with 176 x 220 resolution and a 1.6-inch, 120 x160 resolution external display. The Quantico sports a 1.3 megapixel, fixed focus camera. The CDMA handset supports Stereo Bluetooth class 2, USB 2.0 FS, Mobile Phone Tools and is equipped with a 2.5mm headset jack. It is designed to meet military specifications and safeguards against extreme pressure, temperature, dust, shock, vibration and blowing rain.

The Motorola mobile phone supports AAC, AAC+, AAC+ Enhanced, AMR NB, MIDI, MP3, WAV, WMA v9 audio formats as well as H.263, H.264, MPEG4, WMV v9 video formats. With an 1140mAh battery, the rugged handset delivers up to 5.8 hours of talktime and around 18.6 days of standby time. The dimensions of the handset are 2.2” x 3.7” x 1” and it weighs about 4.2 oz.

The rugged Motorola Quantico is expected to ship by Q4 2009. The pricing details of the flip phone are still under wraps.
