Rogers Wi-Fi TextBlending in the flexibility of staying connected seamlessly while also going easy on the pockets sure calls for some attention, particularly among growing businesses. Rogers shares the launch of what it claims to be Canada’s debut Wi-Fi voice service specifically for smartphones running on Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA). The service intends enabling consumers to save on both time and money.

Taking care of cost effective and reliable connectivity, this new initiative should benefit businesses largely. The Wi-Fi Calling for Business service is said to allow users to make mobile phone calls across Wi-Fi networks. Both business owners and employees will need to have the networks registered on their devices. The fact that the service is based on the UMA technology in line with a host of BlackBerry handsets is what should be allowing access to cellular networks via Wi-Fi.

“Our business customers are telling us they need flexible connectivity that just works – no matter where they are. And they want it at a predictable, competitive price,” adds Gordon Stein, Vice President, Business Segment, Rogers Communications Inc. “With this service, business people can be confident that all of their calls will be clear as they move seamlessly from registered internal Wi-Fi systems to the Rogers 3G network. This combination of flexibility and cost certainty is a powerful advantage for growing businesses.”

The high-spot is that users will be able to effortlessly move back and forth over their office Wi-Fi networks leaving out the need to change smartphones or numbers. UMA is further known to enhance network coverage in terrains like a basement which may not typically have very good signals.

In addition to this, adding the service to existing plans should be easy for small businesses. It can be availed of starting at $10 per month as an add-on to existing Rogers Business Voice Plans. The add-on will empower consumers to engage in calls over Wi-Fi without having it included in monthly voice plan minutes. Upon leaving the Wi-Fi coverage area, the calls are automatically transferred to the Rogers 3G wireless network.
