Reliance Digital launched a new dual SIM 3G Android handset called Reconnect in India for a price of Rs 12999 right on the heels of the two Idea phone releases we reported recently. The Reliance Digital Reconnect smartphone is a 4.7-inch device which fails to impress owing to the fact that it limps along on Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 at a time when cheaper options are being offered with the latest KitKat onboard.
Idea had revealed Commtel to be behind the Fab, while Alcatel is producing the Ultra+ smartphone. But the consumer durables and information technology branch of Reliance Retail is keeping mum about the name of the company manufacturing the Reconnect. We must inform you that the device carries the model number RPSPE4701, just so you don’t confuse it with the RPSPG3501 which also goes by the same branding although it costs Rs 6999 presently.
Reliance Digital Reconnect RPSPE4701 specs list:
– Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS
– 4.7-inch 1280 x 720p IPS touchscreen
– 1.3GHz quad core processor
– 13MP main camera w/ flash, 2MP webcam
– 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM, 32GB expandability
– Dual SIM 3G support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS
– 2000mAh battery
– Black and white color options
We bet you can see the problem already and this has to do with the Reconnect having average features which may not be very helpful at dealing a blow to competitors like the Asus ZenFone 5 priced at Rs 9999, or the Xiaomi Mi 3 that is pegged at Rs 13999. Reliance isn’t bundling its quad core handset with any data plans as such and there’s also no promise about an upgrade to Android KitKat in the future.
Though the actual price of the Reliance Digital Reconnect is mentioned at Rs 12999, the official link to the product page says you can get it for as much as Rs 11999.
