Ray-Ban Shama Shades sunglasses can recharge your smartphone on solar power

Wouldn’t it be nice if your sunglasses could store solar power to recharge your smartphone? That’s exactly what the Ray-Ban Shama Shades do for your iPhone. US-based Indian designer Sayalee Kaluskar, is the inventor of this cool idea.

The genius of the concept lies in how simple and practical it is. Two solar panels are cut out to fit the right and left arms of the eyewear. Their presence is very discreet and only shows as gridded designs on either side. While you’re out in the sun, the device gathers solar energy.

When your handset needs a shot of extra power, simply take one or both of the detachable arms and attach it to your phone via the charging port. In this case, we’d be talking about the Lightning connector of course. To see the pair in action, check out the video we’ve posted above.

This alternate method of topping up the charge on a user’s iPhone has been created as part of a project for Miami Ad School, San Francisco. It’s a pity it’s not in the market as yet. But it’s a great idea, so here’s to hoping the concept will be picked up by the brand.
