Qriocity video service to entertain Xperia phones

The Sony Ericsson blog has revealed the availability of the Qriocity video service for Xperia phones. It has been launched following the recent release of Sony’s cloud based digital music service called Music Unlimited.

This service will allow users to watch TV shows and movies from NBC, Universal international television distribution, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures home entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox home entertainment and Warner Bros. The latest releases will be delivered to users with a detailed back catalogue. They can either purchase or rent the media content.

Users of Xperia mini and mini pro in countries like the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Australia, Japan, Canada and the US, will be able to employ this service. The content will be aptly localized to suit viewers of the respective nations.

The mobile version of this video service is currently available only on Sony Ericsson 2011 Xperia smartphones. It will be activated for the Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia PLAY, Xperia pro and Xperia acro later this year via a software upgrade. It will also be available on the soon to arrive Xperia active and Xperia ray phones.

The Qriocity video service will automatically appear on the mentioned Xperia smartphones which support it. It can be downloaded via the Android Market for free from next month.
