Palm reveals processor, chipset specs of the Pixi

Palm Pixi Handset Last week we reported that Sprint will be launching the Palm Pixi handset. Along with this announcement, Palm had revealed the specifications of the handset. However, the company had held back the processor and chipset details. And now Engadget reports that these specifications have been revealed by Qualcomm.

Qualcomm has detailed the specifications of the MSM7627 chipset that powers the Pixi. The highlight of this chipset is that it bundles up two ARM cores on a single chip. This includes one dedicated 600MHz application processor along with a separate 400MHz modem processor. The 400MHz modem processor is said to offload some of the heavy lifting.

Apart from this, the phone features a 200MHz, OpenGL 2.0-supporting GPU. This GPU ensures that the handset provides a decent gaming experience. The multimedia playback on the device is handled by the 320MHz application DSP. The Pixi also includes a full 30fps WVGA video encoding and decoding.

The Palm Pixi is expected to hit the market during the vacation. The company is also planning to launch Artist series covers for this handset. These covers along with the handset were displayed at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. The pricing and the availability details of the Pixi are still under wraps.
