Openmoko Neo FreeRunner mobile phone will make its appearance soon, It will be shipping to the consumers on July 7. The Openmoko Neo FreeRunner runs on GNU/Linux and features 2.8 inch 480 x 640 VGA touchscreen, GPRS 2.5G, AGPS, Wi-Fi (802.1 1b/g), Bluetooth 2.0, two 3-axis motion sensors, 128MB WSDRAM and 256MB NAND Flash. Sporting a stunning black color, it works on 850MHz or 900 MHz Tri-band GSM and weighs 6.5 ounces.
The Openmoko Neo FreeRunner possesses core software for SMS, dialing and recording contacts. The new software, debuting at Linux world in August, will provide exciting new location based applications. Openmoko plans to add the features with periodic downloads that begins with a software suite which will utilize the hardware platform of the phone.
Unique versions of the FreeRunner phone can be now made by the Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) community and developers. CAD files can easily change the appearance of the Openmoko Neo FreeRunner.
The Openmoko Neo FreeRunner is expected at retail price of Rs. 17,150 ($399). Openmoko will be available from webshop, the Openmoko website and also through the distributors in the EU, India and North America.
