The OnePlus 2 is going to be unveiled on July 27 and just to get folks all pumped up for it, the company will be sending out Virtual Reality (VR) cardboard headsets to interested parties. So whoever decides to sign up for one will experience what it feels like to be standing on the stage with the OnePlus team and fans as the smartphone is launched.
The company has been offering teasing glimpses of the specs of the OnePlus 2 so far. It will be the first brand to incorporate VR as part of its product release event. Additionally, it will also be the first to roll out a USB-C port on a phone. Nokia got there before anyone else in the tablet segment with its N1 device. USB-C is being hailed as the future proof, next generation cross-platform connector and cable. No more digging around for a separate connector for HDMI, VGA, power, USB, Ethernet and so on.
But the best thing about it really is that you don’t need to flip it over and over to plug it in since it has no up or down orientation! OnePlus also claims to have made some patented improvements to the USB-C standard which will be used exclusively on the upcoming handset. All the details will be revealed at the July 27 event. For now, the only specifications we have heard about has to do with the OS and processor. The phone will run on the company’s very own Android Lollipop-based OxygenOS.
It will feature the octa core Snapdragon 810 version 2.1 processor which is essentially supposed to be the ‘cooler’ variant of the original that’s being accused of overheating issues. Additionally, OnePlus says it has made certain changes in hardware and software to deal with it. All eight CPU processors will not run at the same time, with graphics-heavy gaming expected to use one or two of the larger ones, while less intensive tasks like messaging will put the smaller cores to work.
