NTT DoCoMo offers SIM lock removal capability for new mobile phones

NTT DoCoMo After enhancing the mobile segment with a range of enthralling mobile handsets, NTT DoCoMo is back to delight its users. The company takes a step ahead with the release of SIM lock removal capability from any DoCoMo wireless device. The newly invented facility will be marketed from April 1, 2011 onwards.

In addition to this, DoCoMo will also provide SIM cards and micro SIM cards. Customers wishing to use unlocked wireless devices on other operators’ mobile networks can simply switch SIM cards. This will enable a DoCoMo handset to be employed as a local device overseas. Users can exclude SIM lock by visiting any DoCoMo shop in Japan and sign a waiver of acknowledgment. The fee to unlock is 3,150 yen with tax.

DoCoMo SIM cards called Foma cards and micro SIM cards named DoCoMo mini UIM cards will be made available on a subscription basis for those who wish to use a non-DoCoMo device on the DoCoMo mobile network or a different SIM card in their DoCoMo device. While the cards are for free, consumers have to cough up a normal subscriber fee. The company’s handsets do not seem to operate with certain non-Docomo SIM cards even after SIM-lock removal. Some non-Docomo unlocked devices may not operate with a Docomo SIM card as well.

Information regarding basic compatibility can be attained by visiting any DoCoMo shop. The unique SIM lock removal capability can be enjoyed from the beginning of next month.
